Science & Safety Consulting Services is offering an intense 3-day safety workshop that will prepare a science teacher, science supervisor or Maintenance Supervisor in your LEA to be a "qualified Chemical Hygiene Officer" as required by the OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1450 - The Lab Standard. It is impossible to be qualified by anything less than 3 days’ (total 24 hrs) safety training to be able to provide safety professional development to peers or be a CHO. This CHO / trainer / facilitator will also be able to provide required professional development by 29 CFR 1910.1200 – Hazard Communication Standard. Awareness training (shorter sessions) does not qualify a person to be a safety trainer, facilitator or CHO. It provides safety professional development for individual science teachers. School systems / superintendents assume the liability for unqualified trainers/facilitators/CHOs.

This workshop is a condensation of the 4 1/2day (less hands-on) and is second to none. Each participant will receive a Science Laboratory Safety Manual, a Chemical Management CD, and a poster (“Eye Options Protection”). This poster has been purchased to use in the movie "The Green Lantern" (to be released June 2011) and the TV series "Glades." (The total value of materials is $95.) Additionally, NIOSH and other materials will be included as part of the course.

Time / Place Workshop – Gray’s Creek High School, 5301 Celebration Dr., Hope Mills, NC 28348, Aug 2-4. Schedule 8 AM-5 PM, 1 hr lunch.

Cost - $400 / participant; participants are responsible for their food / travel / hotel if need because of the extreme economic climate for schools, I am also available to provide professional development for your LEA science teachers at a reduced rate. (I am already committed Aug 18 and 22-25, 2010.)

I have provided science safety training in North and South Carolina, Colorado, Arizona, and Hawaii and have assessed the science laboratories in over 250 middle and secondary schools. I have also provided safety training for Fisher Science Education. Through my work with the National Science Teachers Association and American Chemical Society, I’m recognized as a national leader in science safety.
